General Information:
In the orientation of building and developing Vietnamese culture and people, the Communist Party of Vietnam has defined the general goal as: “Building Vietnamese culture and people to develop comprehensively, towards truth - goodness - beauty, imbued with national, humanistic, democratic and scientific spirit. Culture truly becomes the solid spiritual foundation of society, an important endogenous strength ensuring sustainable development and firmly protecting the Fatherland for the goal of a prosperous people, strong country, democracy, justice, and civilization”. To achieve this goal, on one hand, it is necessary to focus on researching and systematizing the entire traditional cultural heritage of the nation, including the intellectual heritage created and nurtured by many generations of Vietnamese scholars throughout history, thereby affirming the cultural identity and strength of the nation, taking it as a basis to build the spiritual foundation of society; on the other hand, it is necessary to continuously proactively integrate internationally in culture, implement diverse forms of cultural diplomacy, bring international relations in culture to depth, achieving practical effectiveness. Vietnam and South Korea are two countries with comprehensive strategic partnership relations with extensive exchanges and cooperation in many fields. Specifically in the cultural field, Vietnam and South Korea are both located in the East Asian cultural region, having certain harmony in cultural symbols. However, mutual understanding in terms of thought as the core of culture has only truly been expanded in the past decade or so. Therefore, creating forums and academic environments for scholars from both countries to have opportunities to exchange and learn about each other’s intellectual traditions is extremely necessary to continue deepening the relationship between the two countries.
With permission from the Chairman of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Institute of Philosophy plans to organize the International Conference “The Intellectual Values of Le Quy Don and Jeong Yak Yong in Vietnam and South Korea in the Contemporary Era”. The conference is organized with the purpose of continuing to create an academic exchange forum for domestic and international researchers on the thoughts of two outstanding Confucian scholars in the history of Vietnam and South Korea, thereby jointly analyzing and interpreting contemporary values in their thoughts to address common issues based on mutual learning. The conference is expected to be a step contributing to deepening the comprehensive exchange and cooperation relationship between the two countries and two cultures.
